Philodendron Florida Bronze – A Unique Twist on a Classic Climber

Looking for something unconventional and eye-catching? Philodendron Florida Bronze is a stunning hybrid that sets itself apart with distinctly lobed foliage and a dramatic color transformation. New leaves emerge in a rich bronze hue, gradually maturing to deep, glossy green, creating a multi-tonal effect that adds dynamic contrast to your indoor jungle. With its fast-growing, vining habit, this plant thrives when given room to climb, making it an ideal feature for trellises or moss poles.

Origin: A hybrid Philodendron, likely involving Philodendron pedatum as a parent, selectively cultivated for its changing foliage color.

Growth Habit & Size: A semi self-heading Philodendron that can reach up to 1.5 meters in height indoors. It maintains an upright form but thrives when provided with support, such as a moss pole or trellis, to encourage larger foliage and robust growth.

Shape & Spread: Features deeply lobed, glossy leaves that emerge in a bronze hue before maturing to green. The plant maintains a bushy appearance but can spread outward if left unsupported.

Providing a climbing structure will enhance its growth and aesthetic appeal, allowing it to showcase its unique foliage more prominently.

Room Placement: Prefers bright, indirect light, making it perfect for north-facing or east-facing rooms in the southern hemisphere. Works well as a feature plant in living rooms, hallways, or conservatories, where its climbing nature can be showcased.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate – Fast-growing and relatively easy to care for but benefits from consistent humidity and structured support for best growth.

🔎 Rarity Check: Moderately rare – Exclusive to PlantHouse in NZ. Unavailable in large retail garden centers in New Zealand.

Toxicity: Toxic if ingested; contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals.

Dogs love it
We purchased this as a gift for our 2 grand dogs who are given dog food with slow feeders. One a lab and the other a blue healer. The lab gets so excited trying to get ALL the treats or food, it’s so funny. The healer does a pretty good job too, but is a little slower. I think it’s a great activity for dogs.

It's tough!
This chew toy has held up well. Yes, the squeaker did succumb eventually. Yes, my dog was able to eventually chew pieces from it. However, it has lasted longer than any other chew toy we have purchased other than the Nylabone type. I even bought several for family members who have dogs.

A bit heavy, so mind the sizing. Good though.
My dog is a relentless chewing Jock. He's 11 lbs of Chi X and runs and chews until he's exhausted. I got the 6" for him and it's a bit heavy. He already unraveled and ate the string tape, so I braided and knotted it. He likes it when I can get him to chase it. I'd get a 4" if I were to do it again. It's a great well made product that really let's him get a good chew on.

Pup’s new favorite chew toy!
My son let one of my pups have a corn cob, which my dog enjoyed immensely. However, son got scolded as these can be very dangerous to dogs, and I disappointed my pup by taking it away. I went to Amazon to see if, by chance, a dog toy existed that was a corn cob. And there we found this- the new favorite of MANY chew toys for my medium size aggressive chewers. I bought two, one for each. They enjoyed “tug-a-war” due to the handy rope end. It squeaks. It’s strong and well made. It’s by far their favorite chew toy. I did store them in the fridge prior to giving them and pretended to eat them to make the pups think they were “real”. The package says they are dog toothbrushes, so a good benefit there as well. I’m sure we will be getting these regularly.
